My family and I have shared our home with two German Shepherds. Unfortunately one was taken from us earlier this year due to old age. But during his time with us we can honestly argue that he was the best dog any family could have had the pleasure of spending time with. We were truly blessed to have such a wonderful friend and family member. While he is dearly missed we felt it important to continue to have a German Shepherd presence in our home and we brought another puppy into our family. Our new dog has eased the pain of our loss and made us realize what truly remarkable dogs they are. If you are like us then you know that these dogs are one of the most loyal, intelligent, and protective breeds of dog there is. They are wonderful additions to any family and will bring nothing but years of steadfast companionship for their owners. There is nothing more important than the bond between the this breed and his humans. Training is a very important part of owning one of these wonderful dogs. Owning a well behaved and obedient German Shepherd is a truly rewarding experience. Training your dog correctly will bring out the best in you and your dog and will create a bond that will last a life time. These dog’s superior intelligence is one of the breeds most endearing qualities. Their intelligence needs to be channeled with proper training that will result in a healthy, happy and well behaved canine friend. Because no two breeds of dog are the same and the training required to bring out the best in your German Shepherd is not the same as say, the training needed by a Chihuahua, it is important that a program that is specific to this breed is used. Believe me; nothing will make you or your dog happier than proper training. Our first and now our second have been the most wonderful of pets. While our newest family member is a little over a year and a half old now he still has a lot of puppy in him, but with proper training he has become a well behaved and obedient part of our family. If you own or are thinking about getting a German Shepherd then you also need to consider the best training possible, because the intelligence of this breed demands nothing but the best.

Some Dog Training Aids That Can Help Train Your Dog

When it comes to dog agility the training aids that are available are anti bark collars, this is because many dogs have a problem when they do dog agility in that they bark excessively due to all the excitement that is involved. The Michael Vick Effect. Do Dog Fights Lead to Breed Specific Legislation?

October 19th, 2010

Have you heard of breed specific legislation? Breed specific legislation is the enacting of laws that deal solely with specific dog breeds. For example, in some areas of the world, Pit Bulls are not legal. Other areas of the world call for the Rottweiler to only be allowed on the street while wearing a muzzle. Is breed specific legislation fair?

Breed specific legislation (or BSL) should concern many of you. If you are the owner of a Pit Bull, Rottweiler, Doberman, German Shepherd, American Staffordshire Terrier, Chow Chow, Presa Canario or other such breed there is a chance that BSL is in the works in your community to limit your ownership rights regarding these breeds. But why does it happen?

If we were to dissect the root cause of BSL I think we would find that it basically boils down to two major sources.

1. Irresponsible dog owners. For those of you who have been following the Michael Vick case as of late you know that their exist dog owners who do insanely stupid things with their dogs. Mike Vick has admitted his role in dog fighting rings and in the brutal killing of several pit bulls. It is a horrible thing that he did. His life will forever be affected thanks to his horrific acts. Unfortunately the lives of many Pit Bulls will be affected as well because this news story plants further evidence in the minds of the public that Pit Bulls are vicious creatures.

The Vick case is simply the latest. We have seen many stories over the years of Pit Bull attacks or Rottweiler maulings. At the root of each case you will find irresponsible dog owners who have created monsters due to lack of socialization, training, and poor breeding practices.

2. Irresponsible media reporting. The media loves to put a sensationalistic story in the news. They rarely get the facts right, however. Recently a story came out from the estate of Hollywood actor, Ving Rhames. It was reported that a caretaker for his estate was brutally killed by the actor’s vicious dogs. Media outlets from around the world picked up the story and reported that this man had been viciously attacked and killed by several of Rhames’ dogs. That just wasn’t the case. A few days later the real story emerged. When animal control arrived on the scene they found the dead man surrounded by dogs. Examination of the body showed superficial scratching of the skin that occurred while the dogs were nosing around and investigating the man. The caretaker had died of a heart attack and the dogs were merely trying to rouse the man.

Did you know that some of the worst breeds for biting children are Poodles and Cocker Spaniels? You won’t hear about that in the news because it is not sensationalistic enough. The reality is that any poorly trained and poorly socialized dog is capable of biting. The media will only report it, however, if the dog in question is of a certain breed.

So is BSL fair? As long as there are irresponsible dog owners I think there need to be laws in place to prevent these animals from doing harm to us and our children. As a public, however, we need to be instrumental in guiding legislation so that the good dog owners with the good dogs are not lumped in with the bad.

Rottweiler Dog requires a specific training

September 2nd, 2010

Since with a few other breed of dog, the Rottweiler requires a luck of convinced and given training. Training is weighty if you wish for a dog with the purpose of is available to be loyal, calm and not annihilate your back home. Rottweiler training is very diverse and in attendance are a small amount of issues in actual with the purpose of you will wish for to be multinational on, to ensure with the purpose of your dog is as well industrial and behaved as workable.

Remember with the intention of dogs communicate to lone a further through the aid of body commands and not verbal commands. This is valuable as it comes to Rottweiler training since you need to get on to guaranteed you apply more body commands than verbal if you aspire to be inflicted with accomplishment at this time. Also keep in mind some time ago you start the training with the intention of if you are having serious difficulties you sort out permanently be inflicted with the option of calling in a qualified to help you made known at this time, or by smallest amount help you make ongoing.

When it comes to Rottweiler training, individual of the principal and largely focal things you can make sure of is bake your dog know to facilitate you are the alpha dog, or the individual in control. You can allow them know this by responsibility several things, individual to focus them more than on their back often. By responsibility this, they understand to facilitate they are in a submission stand and to facilitate you therefore are the individual in control.

You be supposed to and practice taking away their food while they are intake, although as a rule owners prepare not realize this. If you are working with a full-fledged dog and they bark or nip by you once you move out to take their food, they contain not been qualified correctly and you will contain to start them rancid fresh now as you would with a puppy.

Rottweiler respect training does not come up with to be arduous and in detail can be a fortune of fun. It allows you to induce a closer connection with your dog and bond with them. Many relations think with the purpose of you cannot teach an old dog pristine tricks but this is really not dedicated. Even if you induce a full-grown Rottweiler you can still train them as it should be, although it could take a fragment more epochs.

Rottweilers are horrendous dogs and nominate representing fabulous pets, but training is a compulsory part of several pet’s lifestyle. You need to nominate convinced to facilitate they are departing to act appropriately, especially if you own guests larger than repeatedly or if you own children. Remember to facilitate if at some point in your Rottweiler training you be converted into too frustrated or simply feel as though you are not making several progress, at hand are professionals improbable at hand to facilitate you can hire to show your face in and help you improbable.
