She will search (and be successful) for ten times as long as this with ZERO encouragement, but since this was her first time searching in snow, there was LOTS of encouragement. I think I do a good job here of keeping her on track while walking the fine line between giving encouragement to continue searching (and in which area I want her to check) without cluing her in to the location to avoid her becoming dependent on (and waiting for) my cues, instead of searching & figuring it out on her own like she is supposed to. She had a hard time on the 2nd throw from all of the snow being contaminated. The red kong is her “special” one, it had a tiny amount of peanut butter smudged inside on this occasion. Also, this video is a very useful tool as it allows me to rewind and watch closely for HER cues & signals. Notice the excitement in her tail when she gets a hit, and the way it stops completely the instant she makes the actual find. If you watch closely you can also tell how strong the hit is, if it is getting weaker or stronger, and more. Thanks for reading & constructive criticism from others who work with dogs is greatly appreciated.
