Dog lovers everywhere have their favorite breed; that very specific canine they hold nearest and dearest to their heart. For some, a childhood pet forever shapes the way they feel towards a particular dog. For others, the adult realization of a childhood dream allows them to pick out any dog they want – and they choose the breed for which they’ve always had a fondness. Black Labradors continues to be one of the most popular breeds chosen as pets; their friendly nature, beautiful coats, and playful energy make them a wonderful addition to any family.

Black Labradors are known by their solid black coats and large statures. Historically, Labrador Retrievers of all varieties were used as hunting dogs because of their energy and instinctive nature. Black Labradors continue to be regarded for their high spirit and are subsequently welcomed into families. But the boundless energy for which black Labradors are known must also be respected; while just being playful black Labradors can inadvertently overcome and injure small children. But the intelligence of black Labradors allows them to be trained quite easily so an obedience program can do wonders for behavior.

Caring for black Labradors obviously includes the proper diet and veterinary care. Special care must also be given to their luxurious coats; Labradors shed quite a bit and should be groomed periodically.

But the most important thing to remember when it comes to black Labradors – because of their substantial size – is the space you must provide for them. Labradors should not be confined to small spaces; they do best with room to walk, run, and play. This not only provides adequate exercise but allows black Labradors to burn off energy. For this reason, healthy Labradors need space; a big back yard or open acreage.

Black Labradors can be a loving, joyous addition to any home! Take your time to learn about their personalities and needs so that you can determine if one is right for your family.

When you first bring it home, it will be lonely, and constantly whining or whimpering – it’s missing its mom, and its siblings. Just calm it gently and speaking as softly as you can, as you would soothe your natural baby, and try and cover it with a towel. It’s been found effective in making it feel less lonely. You can help also by stroking it while you walk around your chores, and occasionally do pick it up and caress it. That will make it less homesick and get attached to you.

Just as we all learnt to have our favorite bedding, blankets, Golden retrievers too can be made to come to love what it gets. But don’t ever try getting an expensive blanket for it. it will just chew it away! Get some good quality blankets from a thrift store nearby and buy them in half a dozen. You can get a bargain, and you don’t have to worry about it for the next three or four weeks.. keep your fingers crossed. Golden Retrievers are known for chewing their blankets !

The best bed you can make for your Retriever inside the house is with a woollen blanket – an old one – and keep its meal and water, close by all the time. If inside the house and sleeping with you in your bedroom, well, you better be prepared to get up twice or thrice to take it outdoors for it to answer nature’s call. You will get used to it, and so will your pet! You bet!

And yes, after you have fed it, you should take it out after an hour so that it learns to answer nature’s calls outside.

If you are going to leave the Golden Retriever outdoors, make sure you build or buy a sturdy one, which will be comfy for it; Use wooden straw for it on the floor or use newspapers or both. You can also try wooden shavings. Do provide a small curtain at both ends: it too feels the cold, you know, and the breeze or wind can make it uncomfortable. And yes, if it is cold, you can use that unused blanket or quilt that you just kept it away.. maybe you would have to look for it. It would love to snuggle into the quilt, and you may have to unfold the whole quilt to find where it went into!

The Golden Retriever is a very friendly dog, and loves to be cuddled and fondled, and it has a smirk on its face most of the time, as if it was making a fool of you. And it enjoys playing, galloping here and there, so you better train it to behave as well!

Make your Golden Retriever comfortable and loved, and it will be beautiful companion for you, and indeed for your whole family.

The Great Labrador Retriever ? Your Ultimate Companion

The Labrador is one of several kinds of retriever, a type of gun dog also called Labrador Retriever, Labby, or Lab for short. The term “Retriever” refers to any one of several breeds of Sporting Dogs. Retrievers were bred primarily to retrieve birds or other prey and return them to the hunter without any damage. The American Kennel Club lists the following breeds of retrievers: Chesapeake Bay, Golden, Curly-coated, Flat-coated, and Labrador retriever. Labrador Retrievers’ willingness to please and trainability made them the most popular breed among all assistant dogs in the world. They are natural hunters and are equipped with an exceptional sense of smell. Because of their great “nose”, they also work in narcotics as a drug sniffing dogs, search and rescue dogs, as guide dogs for the blind, and as a service dog for the disabled.

Labradors are relatively large, with males typically weighing 30–36 kg (65–80 lb) and females 25–32 kg (55–70 lb). Labradors come in two varieties; the English “show” line and the American “field” line. The English bred (show-bred) labs are heavier, thicker and blockier. The American bred (field and trial-bred) Labs are longer legged, lighter, and more lithe in build.

The Labrador Puppies Retriever is a double coat breed. The color of the coat comes in chocolate, black, and yellow. Their short and smooth double coat is easy to groom with a brush with firm bristles. Their interwoven coat is also relatively waterproof, even when they swim their skin stays dry due to their water-resistant undercoat. They are also moderate shredders of hair.

Labradors are happy in the great outdoors and are tremendous swimmers. The otter-like tail and webbed toes of the Labrador Retriever make them excellent swimmers. Labs are big eaters and need regular exercise and moderate rations to avoid a tendency to become overweight.

Labradors are a devoted breed that can be a wonderful asset to a family but having a Labrador puppy is a huge responsibility. It requires energy to keep up with the pup, as well as the patience to work with him as Labrador puppies are very energetic and want to explore everything in their surroundings. Their excitement about everything often causes them to do certain activities that can annoy you but this can be corrected through proper training and supervision. You must teach him what to put in his mouth and what not because they eat digestible and non-food objects alike and are prone to chewing objects. Your furniture and belongings may suffer if not trained properly at an early stage. Furthermore, their strong build can make them hard to control later in adulthood.

Labradors are often very easygoing and trusting with strangers, and therefore are not usually suitable as guard dogs. However these are one of the best family dogs and canine companions because of their gentle, friendly and lovable temperament. They are exceptionally affable, intelligent, energetic and good natured and is the perfect to an active family. Labs have a high intelligence and willingness to work hard to please their owners. This is why they are widely used by police and other official bodies too.

Collie Dog – The Companion

The Collie dog makes an excellent sporting dog, and can be taught to do the work of the Pointer and the Setter, as well as that of the Water Spaniel and the Retriever. He can be trained to perform the duties of other breeds. He is clever at hunting, having an excellent nose, is a good vermin-killer, and a most faithful watch, guard, and companion.

Little is known with certainty of the origin of the Collie, but his cunning and his outward appearance would seem to indicate a relationship with the wild dog. Buffon was of opinion that he was the true dog of nature, the stock and model of the whole canine species. He considered the Sheepdog superior in instinct and intelligence to all other breeds, and that, with a character in which education has comparatively little share, he is the only animal born perfectly trained for the service of man.

At the shows this type of dog is invariably at the top of the class. He is considered the most tractable, and is certainly the most agile. Second to this type in favour is the smooth-coated variety, a very hard, useful dog, well adapted for hill work and usually very fleet of foot. He is not so sweet in temper as the black and white, and is slow to make friends. There is not a more graceful and physically beautiful dog to be seen than the show Collie of the present period. Produced from the old working type, he is now practically a distinct breed.

The skull should be flat, moderately wide between the ears, and gradually tapering towards the eyes. There should only be a slight depression at stop. The width of skull necessarily depends upon combined length of skull and muzzle, and the whole must be considered in connection with the size of the dog. The cheek should not be full or prominent.

The muzzle should be of fair length, tapering to the nose, and must not show weakness or be snipy or lippy. Whatever the colour of the dog may be, the nose must be black. The teeth should be of good size, sound and level, very slight unevenness is permissible. The jaws Clean cut and powerful. The eyes are a very important feature, and give expression to the dog; they should be of medium size, set somewhat obliquely, of almond shape, and of a brown colour except in the case of merles, when the eyes are frequently (one or both) blue and white or china, expression full of intelligence, with a quick alert look when listening. The ears should be small and moderately wide at the base, and placed not too close together but on the top of the skull and not on the side of the head. When in repose they should be usually carried thrown back, but when on the alert brought forward and carried semi-erect, with tips slightly drooping in attitude of listening.

The neck should be muscular, powerful and of fair length, and somewhat arched. The body should be strong, with well sprung ribs, chest deep, fairly broad behind the shoulders, which should be sloped, loins very powerful. The dog should be straight in front. The fore-legs should be straight and muscular, neither in nor out at elbows, with a fair amount of bone; the forearm somewhat fleshy, the pasterns showing flexibility without weakness. The hind-legs should be muscular at the thighs, clean and sinewy below the hocks, with well bent stifles. The feet should be oval in shape, soles well padded, and the toes arched and close together.

In general character he is a lithe active dog, his deep chest showing lung power, his neck strength, his sloping shoulders and well bent hocks indicating speed, and his expression high intelligence. He should be a fair length on the leg, giving him more of a racy than a cloddy appearance. In a few words, a Collie should show endurance, activity, and intelligence, with free and true action. In height dogs should be 22 ins. to 24 ins. at the shoulders, bitches 20 ins. to 22 ins. The weight for dogs is 45 to 65 lbs., bitches 40 to 55 lbs. The smooth collie only differs from the rough in its coat, which should be hard, dense and quite smooth.
