Retriever Puppies – Top Tips on How to Stop Puppies from Biting
Picking up on how to stop puppies from biting is generally an easy task if you invest a small amount of time to learn the techniques. There is a huge amount of information available on the net but be careful where you choose to go because much of the info is confusing and frustrating.. You should focus on the tried and true methods to get the puppy to learn what is right and what is wrong about biting.. You can’t take the chance of letting this biting behavior go unchallenged because it could result in your puppy growing into an aggressive dog. The funny thing is that most puppies will naturally grow out of this biting behavior if allowed to stay with siblings past eight weeks old. What happens is that when puppies bite their siblings the siblings bite back and they learn to stop biting. Let’s start with the shoes:
How to Stop Puppies from Biting Shoes
Puppies love to bite and chew on shoes. For some reason they love to tear apart shoes, slippers, socks and other foot wear when they are young. And if they are not taught to stop, this irritating habit will stay with them as they get older. You can start to solve this problem by using a two-step method — keep all shoes off the floor and insurer that other family members do the same. You may choose to put the puppy outside when it bites shoes, or to tap it on the nose while saying no. Whatever you choose to do, the important part is everyone training in the same way.
How to Stop Puppies from Biting People
Even if the puppy is playing it is not acceptable behavior to allow them to bite people. The reason that you want to correct this quickly while they’re young is that the bite serious when they are older. If the training is to be effective it must be consistent for puppies to learn. Saying no in a stern voice and removing the puppy from the situation is a good start. The bottom line is that the puppy will be confused if you are not consistent in your training.
