How to Look for the Best Golden Retriever Breeder

Edit Article |

]]>

Choosing the golden retriever breeder is a very important task. Since you cannot guess on how the puppy you wish to buy will grow up both emotionally and physically, you can only rely on golden retriever breeders to provide you with the best companion, playmate and pet.

You can look for golden retriever breeders in pet shops, backyards and serious hobby breeders. If this is your first time to look for a puppy, it is likely that you will first head to the pet shop. Unfortunately, that is the worst decision you could do. At dealers and pet shops, golden retriever breeders lack the ability to breed and raise dogs properly.

Backyard breeders, on the other hand, are people who own golden retrievers as pets. Backyard breeders have different reasons why they breed their pets – for money, for experience, for fun, or for other personal reasons. Unfortunately, most backyard breeders have little knowledge on how to breed with proper care and have no idea about problems associated with breeding.

The “serious hobby” golden retriever breeders are the most recommended source of a puppy because they are dedicated in breeding dogs. Majority of serious breeders take pride in producing and taking care of the finest golden retrievers possible. As a result, the puppies they produce are healthy emotionally and physically.

What You Need to Ask the Golden Retriever Breeder

When you’re looking for a golden retriever breeder, you have to consider several things to ensure you are buying a healthy dog. Make sure the breeder has personally taken care of the breeding and has knowledge in golden retriever health.

Ask the golden retriever breeder about the family background of the puppy. Let the breeder tell you about the activities the mother was involved in, including hunting, tracking, agility, obedience patterns and others.

Spend time with the puppy and examine if he is shy, fearful or tends to whimper. Examine for rashes, dull coats, eves and other signs of neglect. In addition, make sure that the golden retriever breeder is selling you a puppy aged seven weeks or more. This is important since taking the puppy away from the dam could affect his physical and emotional health.

The best way to determine if the dog breeder is selling you a healthy puppy is by taking the golden retriever to the vet for examination. The veterinarian can determine the dog’s state of health.

Get advice from the breeder for your Golden Retriever Training

Edit Article |

Avoidance of housebreaking of the new is not possible, but the basic fact is that it will increase the level of understanding between the dog and its master.

The people who breed Golden retriever can give a lot of information and amenities related to the training of Labrador retrievers.

Consultation with a breeder is necessary to gather information regarding his breed and understand which points to be paid attention to.

The breeder will advise one to pay attention to outdoor activities of the dogs, love for water and their friendly attitude towards humans.

A Golden retriever bears its similarity with a Labrador.

Despite variations in the color of the Labrador, the training will be similar for the Golden retriever and the Labrador.

Due to the inborn friendly attitude of the Golden retrievers, their masters will derive huge amount of pleasure and entertainment once their training is complete.

Golden retrievers were invented by the inmates of Scotland who originated them after their successful crossing of a yellow retriever with a Tweed Water Spaniel, supposed to be a Field Spaniel breed that is now believed to have been no more in existence.

Labrador retrievers are different from Spaniels, as they generally stay with families and hunt well, while the latter are known from their extensive swimming and retrieving abilities.

Spaniels have great compatibility quotient with dogs and cats but not with rabbits, rats and mice.

A golden retriever has well developed hunting, swimming and retrieving abilities.

When the Golden retrievers and Labrador retrievers respond for passing urine as a puppy, it is indication enough that their training should be started off.

Do forget that after successful completion of their training, Golden retrievers will provide a lot of enjoyment to their masters because of their friendly nature.

The Challenge of Training an Aggressive Dog

Dog aggressive behavior is among the most difficult to deal with by training. There is a large number of factors that lead to aggression problems; therefore the training of aggressive dogs is a challenge and a big responsibility at the same time. Before actually turning to some centre specialized in the training of the aggressive dogs, you should take the animal to the vet and see whether there is no injury or ailment that is causing pain, which may irritate the dog. On the other hand, training an aggressive dog in a special centre doesn’t eliminate the entire problem.

Legit Questions To Ask A Chihuahua Breeder

Always ask for proof of what national breeder registry your Chihuahua breeder is listed with. A good Chihuahua breeder will have an ongoing interest in the health of your dog so ask questions about their support after the sale. Ask your vet for breeder advice as well. Any good Chihuahua breeder is going to have a policy that allows owners to return pets rather than abandon them.

When you start looking for a Chihuahua breeder to get your dog from then you are going to want to find out all the important things about that breeder before you do business with them. To do this you need to know what to ask a prospective Chihuahua breeder so that you can tell if they are reputable and if they know the business of properly raising and breeding Chihuahuas as well. Make sure you ask any questions you have, as a reputable breeder will expect questions.

The very first thing you want to know is what national breeder registry the breeder is listed with. A listing with a breeder registry means that the breeder understands and uses the practices of good breeding and that is something you absolutely want. If they are reputable they will have something to show you that lets you know what registry they are listed with.

A Chihuahua breeder that is worth doing business with understands that the relationship with the owner does not end when the transaction is over. Talk with your breeder about the support and advice they offer after the sale. Your relationship with your breeder will go on for many years after you bring the pup home so if your breeder indicates that they may not offer ongoing consultation then you may want to avoid that breeder.

A great source for any information you might need to know about your new pet can come from your vet. You will need a vet when you get a new pup so if you haven’t picked a vet out yet then do so and discuss prospective breeders with your vet to find out what they think of the breeders you are considering. Your vet will steer you in the right direction and make sure that you deal with a breeder that you will be happy with.

As painful as it may be, any good Chihuahua breeder will have a policy where they will take back the pet at any stage of its life if the owner can no longer care for it, to avoid having the dog be abandoned. The breeder will not offer a cash refund but they will offer the dog a second chance at a new owner and offer the old owner a chance to do the right thing and not leave their little pet abandoned to die.

Deciding on a Chihuahua breeder is important so be ready to ask a lot of questions before you settle on one. A good breeder will be expecting a lot of questions so don’t think you are doing anything new and many reputable breeders will insist that you ask as many questions as you can think of because to a good breeder a solid relationship with the owner is just as important as any other part of the dog’s life.

Characteristics Of A Bad Chihuahua Breeder

October 5th, 2010

Check and see if the Chihuahua breeder you are dealing with is listed with one of the national breeder registries on the Internet. A good Chihuahua breeder will offer detailed care instructions for you and stay in touch after you buy your dog. If your Chihuahua breeder does not offer you free pet insurance then question why.

It is time to expand your family and everyone has decided that they really want a Chihuahua for the newest family member. The single most important decision you can make in the search for your new Chihuahua is the first decision you make and that is deciding on what Chihuahua breeder you want to get your dog from. Choosing the wrong breeder could cause problems down the road so take your time and make sure you make the right decision.

A great resource for checking out Chihuahua breeders is the national breeder registries that you can find on the Internet. The gold standard for breeder registries is the National Kennel Club so you may want to start there. It is important that your breeder not only understands the principles of good breeding but also subscribes to them by being listed under a breeder registry. This should be the first place you look for a breeder.

A Chihuahua breeder is so much more than just someone you buy your dog from. Breeders are professionals that you should be able to call on for advice and also for when something seems to be wrong. A good breeder will have an open line of communication with the owner for years to come to make sure the Chihuahua is healthy and happy for a very long time. A breeder that is difficult to get a hold of is not a breeder you want to do business with.

A good breeder loves animals and is just as concerned with how you care for you dog as you are. A reputable breeder will send a new owner home with detailed care and feeding instructions so that the new owner knows what their dog needs and they also send home a food sample so the new owner knows what to feed their dog. If you are talking to a breeder that is not offering detailed care instructions then you are talking to the wrong breeder.

When a Chihuahua breeder gains a positive reputation and keeps their breeder registry listing in good standing they are approached by insurance companies to offer new owners limited free pet insurance policies. These policies extend for six weeks after you purchase your dog and can help at that first appointment. If your breeder does not offer free pet insurance after the sale then you may want to question why.

A good breeder is just as important to your dog’s health and happiness as you are or the vet is. Choosing a fake breeder can cause many problems down the road and make your dog’s life, and your life, miserable. So be careful when choosing a breeder and be sure to ask a lot of questions because this first decision is probably the most important decision you will make for your dog and for the future happiness of you and your family.

Finding a Reliable Rottweiler Breeder

September 22nd, 2010

This article will focus on the guidelines to assist you in finding a responsible and reputable breeder.

Take your time selecting a breeder. You may ask for recommendations from vets, friends who own a Rottweiler, local breeding clubs, if available, or you may contact the American Kennel Club. If you see advertisements in newspapers for “puppies for sale”, do not inquire. People who breed their dogs with their friend’s dogs are called backyard breeders and you do not want a puppy from these people. A backyard breeder will have no idea if the parents of the puppies are healthy or if they have some medical defect that could be inherited by the puppies. A breeder will screen their dogs for genetic problems and will be able to give prospective owners documentation showing their puppies are from a litter whose parents are free of any genetic problems.

A reputable breeder will show their dogs or at least participate in some dog related events. These events may include obedience, agility, herding or numerous other dog events. A responsible breeder only breeds to improve the dog breed. Through participation in dog events they are able to compare their dogs with other breeder’s dogs. If you find a breeder who does not compete in dog events and does not participate in some type of dog club (i.e. obedience, schutzhund, herding, all-breed, etc) you probably don’t want to choose a puppy from this person.

A good breeder knows their breed and knows what medical problems (congenital defects) are present in the breed. Two medical problems that seem to occur frequently in Rottweilers are hip dyplasia and entropion (eyelid defect). A breeder will inform you of any problems in the breed and what kind of testing has been done with her dogs to make sure she/he isn’t breeding animals with defective genes. An ethical breeder will guarantee that the puppy you take home is in good health and will take the puppy/dog back if a genetic problem is found that debilitates the life of the dog. This will be covered in the contract that you must read and sign before you become the owner/guardian of the puppy.

Some good questions to ask the breeder are:

• How long have you been breeding Rottweilers? (Look for experience)

• Are the puppies parents on site and may I see them? The mother should be on site and probably not the father. Remember a good breeder breeds to advance the dogs breed. It is not likely that a person has exceptional male and female dogs to mate and advance the breed. If both parents are on site be cautious.

• How many litters do you have in a year? If they have more then two litters be very cautious. They may be breeding more for profit then advancement of the breed.

• Are the puppies house raised? Raising puppies in a house and around people is a great start on their socialization. If the puppies are raised in a kennel, that could be fine as long as they are around people and are introduced to the home so they may become accustomed to sounds, sights and smells. You want the puppy use to a home environment as they will be living inside when you take them home.

• What kind of guarantee do you offer? The breeder should offer a health and genetic disease guarantee along with a guarantee to take back the puppy or dog, no matter the age, if you are unable to keep it. This is not to say that they will return your money; they will take back their dog to keep it safe and keep it out of the animal shelter.

A good breeder will screen you as a prospective buyer. They want to make sure you will be a good fit for their puppy and are informed about the breed. Many of the questions may seem intrusive or nosey but a breeder wants to insure her puppy is going to a person who plans to take care of their pet for the next eight to twelve years. You are committing yourself to being responsible for this animal for their lifetime.

Before you decide on the breed of puppy you want to adopt, read all you can and go to dog shows. Being around the different breeds will give you a chance to see the dog in action. Maybe a Rottweiler isn’t for you but another breed is. Get to know the dog before making the commitment.

Selecting The Right Golden Retriever Breeder

September 4th, 2010

A breeder is one who deals in pups and looks after the dogs to ensure he gets a good quality litter. It is important for you to be able to trust your breeder and his ability to provide you with a good pup. There are three types of breeders that one must know about.

Avoid pet shop or pet dealer and backyard dealers. At the pet shop the pups are raised strictly for their commercial value and not much attention is paid to their welfare – they are generally poorly bred and badly raised.

The backyard breeder is a person who has a pet Golden and breeds for fun or money. Not much attention is paid to history and standard of the breed. Proper care is not taken and the breeder is generally not aware of problems that he may face while breeding.

Your best option therefore is the serious hobby breeder. Now here is someone who is dedicated to breeding his dogs in the best and safest possible manner keeping all relevant details in mind.

Since the price difference is not much between the pet shop breeder, the backyard breeder and the serious breeder, one needs to know a few things before selecting the right breeder to know that they have someone they can trust.

Firstly, the breeder should be part of the Golden Retriever Club of America, a local Golden Retriever club, or an all-breed club and is up to date with rules and regulations.

The breeder must show his/her dogs in the breed ring, in hunting tests/field trials, the obedience ring, agility, tracking, or in a combination of all. This is so that the breeder is aware of how good his/her dogs really are. He is allowing his dogs to be tested so that he can better his efforts.

You know that he is not only dependent on pedigree. You may not want a competition dog but you would like you pup to be part of a carefully planned litter.

The breeder must also have some basics in place like a clean environment; healthy, well-socialized puppies; and a dam of good temperament. He must also allow you to have the puppy examined by a veterinarian and ensure that it is in good health.

Then the breeder must have a record of dates and types of vaccinations and de-worming done, feeding instructions, a 3-to 5-generation pedigree, and an AKC registration application so you can apply for registration of the puppy in your own name with the American Kennel Club (AKC).

Written instructions on feeding, training and care must be given. He also must be able to show you proof that the sire and dam have had their hips X-rayed, and evaluated as normal by the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) and/or PennHIP along with other necessary check ups. The breeder should be willing and able to answer your questions possible hereditary problems.

He must take the trouble to find out what kind of dogs you have had in the past, what happened to them; do you have a fenced yard; and will the dog will be allowed to be a house dog and a member of the family.

Sincere breeders will want the pups best interests at heart and will be reluctant to sell them if they have misgivings about you.

He should be able to give you references, a written contract benefiting all concerned, pedigree and registration papers, be there for advice should you need any and help you enjoy your dog to the fullest as much as he can.

Ensure that you ask all the questions you have and clear up each and every little doubt. Before selecting the right breeder, make sure he gives you a satisfactory response to all queries and he meets all the criteria. All the best!

Things To Ask A German Shepherd Breeder

August 22nd, 2010

You and your family have decided that it is time to get a German Shepherd and now the time has come to find the right German Shepherd breeder. This is a long process and if you know what questions to ask then it can be a little less difficult, but if you are unsure of what you should be doing then you could get in over your head. Choosing a breeder is extremely important and you need to take your time to make sure that the breeder you choose really is the right one for you and your family.

You will be talking to a lot of breeders so get ready for that right off the bat. Talking to just one breeder is not enough because even though you are bringing the dog home your relationship with the breeder will go on for a long time. You need to feel like you can ask your breeder for advice and if a particular breeder makes you uncomfortable then you need to talk to other breeders until you find one you feel comfortable with.

In most cases a reputable German Shepherd breeder is going to be affiliated with one of the national breeder registries. Find out which one the breeder you are talking to is affiliated with and check out that organization’s breeding standards. If you see some things that concern you then discuss them with the breeder. If the breeder you are talking to is not listed on a registry then ask them why they chose to not be listed and ask them what they use for breeding standards.

A good breeder does not allow you to leave with your new pup empty handed. A good breeder is going to supply you with a lot of care and feeding information that is vital to the health and well being of your dog. A good breeder will also see to it that you leave with a sample of your dog’s food so that you know what to feed your dog. If you do not get these things from the breeder you are dealing with then you will want to question that.

Many of the reputable breeders are offered free pet insurance policies by insurance companies to be given away to the owners of new pups. The insurance companies hope that you use the six-week policy to take your dog to the vet and see how wonderful the insurance is and extend it. The German Shepherd breeder just hopes you take the dog to the vet and is happy to offer you something for free that will help you with your vet costs. Ask your breeder about free pet insurance.

A breeder is a very important person in the life of your dog and your family. Take the time to really talk with prospective breeders and find out where they stand on things. Check out the breeding facilities, as this affects the health, both physical and psychological, of your new German Shepherd pup. Take your time when deciding on a German Shepherd breeder.

How To Avoid A Fake Rottweiler Breeder

June 25th, 2010

You have made the decision and your next pet is going to be a Rottweiler dog. The first thing you have to do, and the most important step in this process, is to choose a quality Rottweiler breeder. A breeder is someone you not only get your dog from but also someone that you will turn to for advice on raising your dog and someone that will supply you with the care and feeding instructions you will follow for your dog. The breeder needs to be someone you can trust so take your time and do your research before you finally settle on an all important Rottweiler breeder to get your pet from.

You can check the national breeder registries on the Internet to see if the breeders you are considering are listed with a registry and adhere to the registry’s breeding standard. The American Kennel Club is a very famous registry but there are others, so be sure to check them all. If a prospective breeder is not listed with a registry you may want to find out why and ask what breeding standards they use for quality breeding.

People use the Internet to express their opinions on many topics and perhaps you will find information about fake Rottweiler breeders on the Internet as well. Some people feel so strongly about a situation that they will post on a public message board for all to see and that should be a good indication that you may want to avoid that breeder. Some breeders also have websites and you can really get a good idea for what kind of breeder you are dealing with from the information on their website so see if they have an internet presence before you start talking with them.

Never forget that your vet is a great source of information for your pet purchasing needs. If you have a vet then ask them their opinion on the breeders you are considering and if they have a negative opinion then maybe steer clear of that breeder. If you do not yet have a vet then the time you are choosing a breeder is the perfect time to choose a vet and get their opinion.

For something like a Rottweiler breeder you may want to check with local law enforcement about the breeders you are considering.
