The Marilyn Merlot is released on June 1st, her birthday, and in the 14th year of the product line’s history, the American Film Institute voted her the #6 greatest female celebrity of all time. Due to fact that she was Hugh Hefner’s first Playboy centerfold, she was also recognized as one of the most popular sex symbols of her day and this has continued for years after her death in 1962 at the age of 36.

The history of Chiantis
Chiantis can trace their origins back nearly 25 years to 1981 in St. Helena, California, a city located in the heart of the state’s wine country more commonly referred to as the Napa Valley. While experimenting with home wine making, a small group of good friends created the brand and the “Marilyn Merlot” was born. It was initially given as gifts during the holiday season, but it soon became a popular favorite at numerous charity auctions also.
The wine had become so popular by 1985 that a special limited edition of the Marilyn Merlot was bottled and hit the shelves of local area wine retailers. Wine collectors, critics, and fine wine enthusiasts over the ensuing years focused on other products such as the other Chiantis mentioned in the section above. The product line has now enjoyed nearly a 25 year history, unlike other brands that come and go in the industry.
Chiantis currently maintain an exclusive relationship with her estate so that they can have the privilege of using her name and any of her images. Despite the fact that Marilyn died in 1962, the wine product line is a statement of the impact that her career had as well as a celebration of her life.
